The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Northern Mindanao is encouraging local government units (LGUs) and child caring agencies to conduct advocacy activities on adoption.
Adoption focal person of DSWD Northern Mindanao, Sean Pamela Balais said the public should know that adoption is providing a permanent home or families to children who are abandoned, surrendered, orphaned or neglected.
“It is hope that through these activities, more families will open their homes to care and love for children whose biological parents or legal guardian cannot provide for their needs permanently,” Balais said.
Balais also emphasized that undergoing through a legal adoption process will be beneficial to the child and to the adoptive parents.
DSWD spearheads the observance of Adoption Consciousness Week in Northern Mindanao through Alternative Family Care Forum, Parenting Skills Enhancement for Adoptive and Foster Parents, and series of radio and television guesting.
The event starts from February 21 to 27 with the theme, “Legal na Ampon Ako: Anak na Totoo.”###
