TACLOBAN CITY – More and more cities and municipalities are being reached by the relief operations of the Department of Social Welfare and Development by ensuring proper coordination with the different Local Government Units affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
DSWD is working double time in sending food packs and non-food relief goods (tents, mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, towels and hygiene kits) to different municipalities in aid of the internally displaced families either in evacuation centers or the different barangays.
Relief goods are either delivered by DSWD workers and turned over to proper authorities at the LGU level or are requested directly and obtained by the LGU through the different operation hubs all over Region 8.
DSWD Assistant Secretary Vilma Cabrera, acting as overall team leader for Task Force Yolanda is managing the distribution of the relief goods, crafting and scheduling distributions to the different cities and municipalities daily.
In this manner, the team is ensured that no city or municipality is left out in the relief operations and that regular distribution of goods is observed. Request for goods are also accommodated in the different relief operation hubs and DSWD workers are attending to these requests immediately.
Non-food relief goods are being distributed through the Task Force Yolanda Main Hub, Abucay District, Tacloban City while food packs are being distributed at Tacloban Port Area.
Other hubs in Region 8 include Ormoc City Hub, Guiuan Hub, and the newly opened Catbalogan City Hub. The Department expresses urgency in delivering relief goods and services to all affected areas as evident in the proper coordination with the different Government Agencies, Non-Government Organizations, Private Sectors and the Local Government Units to ensure optimum outcome of the relief efforts.
