With this year’s theme for the National Statistics Month , “NSM @ 25 and Beyond: Solid and Responsible Philippine Statistical System in Support of Globalization and Regional Economic Integration , the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) Unit participated in the Exhibit competition which was formally opened for public viewing last Oct. 1, 2014, in one of the malls in the city.
Participants of the exhibit were partner and member agencies of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee of the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA formerly National Statistics Office) which included the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Agriculture,Department of Health, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Mechanics and conceptualization of the exhibit per agency revolved around the theme of the National Statistics Month. The exhibit runs from October 1-3, 2014 and is only one of the many activities lined up within the month .
In her message during the opening program, Director Malou Igdon,stressed the importance of statistics be it for purposes of conducting researches,implementing programs, and in planning what should be done in the future. Statistics, she said, is one of the best tools in determining how far the implementation has gone so far as well as in helping determine what should be the next steps for the future .
Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) is an information management system that the government uses in identifying who and where the poor are and is being spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. It aims to address poverty reduction through a scientific and target- focused strategy.
Various activities including symposiums related to statistics will be conducted with the one month celebration .
