The Department of Social Welfare and Development recently participated in a Tree Growing Activity spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources held in one of the badly hit barangays during Sendong.
Around ten employees of the Department joined in the activity along with other representatives from various National Government Agencies in the region.
The tree growing activity was part of the many activities lined up for the month-long celebration of the National Statistics Month which is being held annually. Around three hundred tree seedlings were distributed among the participants.
Other agencies who participated in the tree growing activity included the Department of Education, Department of Health, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army, Philippine Statistics Authority, and the Department of Agriculture.
Staff from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in coordination with the Barangay Council of the barangay oriented the participants beforehand on the proper way of planting the tree seedlings.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources was tasked to ensure that the planted trees will be monitored regularly.
This activity is only one of the many collaborative efforts among the National Government Agencies in protecting the environment .
