In the coastal municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte, a former 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) beneficiaries has transformed his life lives from humble beginnings into influential roles as professional teacher.

Neilmar Hawom teaches the Mathematics class for Grade 5 students at Mabuhay Elementary School in Mabuhay, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte.

Nielmar Hawom hailing from Barangay Dabliston, has demonstrated how passion and perseverance, coupled with government support, can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

Growing up in families struggling to make ends meet, Hawom faced an uphill battle in pursuing their education.

The 4Ps program, a conditional cash transfer initiative by the government, provided them with a lifeline that would eventually change the trajectory of his life.

Neilmar faced numerous challenges during college, which motivated him to put in extra effort to complete his studies and secure a job.

For Nielmar, the 4Ps program was more than just financial assistance; it was a beacon of hope.

“4Ps opened countless opportunities for me,” he said. However, his journey was not without obstacles.

During his college years, financial difficulties forced him to halt his studies for two years.

Despite this setback, Hawom remained undeterred. “It changed my life forever,” he reflected.

“With unwavering support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), I embarked on a journey of academic excellence and personal growth.”

Hawom’s resilience paid off

After resuming his studies, he leveraged additional opportunities provided by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which prioritizes 4Ps beneficiaries for scholarships.

His hard work culminated in graduating with Special Awards and being recognized as the Best Pre-Demonstrator in Mathematics.

“Because of the scholarship, I excelled academically,” he proudly stated.

He has been teaching for six years at Mabuhay Elementary School in Mabuhay, Sultan Naga Dimaporo,some two-hour motorcycle ride from the national highway in a barangay of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Neilmar is committed to helping both 4Ps beneficiaries and non-4Ps students shape a brighter future through Mathematics.

He currently teaches Grade 5 pupils.
