Gracelda Tapayan slowly paddles the balance wheels of her sewing machine to stitch together garments and repair torn clothes after she prepares food for her children, who will go to school daily.

Gracelda has faced the challenges of life head-on, single-handedly raising her four children amidst financial hardships.

Gracelda, due to the constraints of poverty, completed only the first year of high school. 

Undeterred by the adversities, she turned to sewing and repairing clothes as a means of income to support her family. 

The Tapayan household struggled financially, but it did not dampen the spirits of Gracelda and her children. Instead, it became a source of inspiration for the family to strive for a better future.

Instilling the value of education and hard work

Gracelda instilled in her children the value of education and hard work. 

The children, fully aware of their family’s economic condition, excelled in their studies, turning challenges into stepping stones toward success. 

Gracelda’s guidance and the unwavering determination of her children created a support system that transcended the boundaries of financial constraints.

One of the shining examples of this family’s triumph is Mariane Daphne, who not only graduated from college with high academic performance but also passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers. 

Mariane is now a substitute Public School Teacher at Taboc Sur Integrated School, Oroquieta City.

Another success story within the Tapayan family is Harold, a recent graduate with a degree in Marine Science. 

Graduating as a scholar student, Harold embarked on an apprenticeship abroad on November 28, 2022, with a well-deserved allowance.

4Ps impact

The Tapayan family’s journey took a positive turn when they became beneficiaries of the 

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is a government initiative that provides financial assistance to eligible households. The program has proven to be a lifeline for the Tapayan family, allowing them to address basic needs such as electricity, water bills, and other household expenses.

Expressing gratitude for the support received, the Tapayan family acknowledges the transformative impact of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. The cash grants eased their financial burdens and reignited hope in pursuing their dreams. 

Despite life’s challenges, the Tapayan family believes in blessings and expresses heartfelt thanks to the program for being a beacon of hope in their journey.
