As part of its commitment to promote inclusion, empowerment, and social protection, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 10 (DSWD-10) extended financial assistance amounting to P3,000 each to 92 women with disabilities during the 3rd Region-Wide Women with Disability Summit, held from May 30 to June 1, 2025, at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
The beneficiaries were city and municipal leaders of the Differently-Abled Women Network in Northern Mindanao. The financial assistance aims to help address the urgent needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and reinforce DSWD-10’s commitment to supporting vulnerable sectors.
With the theme, “Limitless Possibilities: Women with Disabilities Redefining Success,” the summit was held in line with the national observance of the 21st Women with Disabilities Day, themed “Kababaihang Maykapansanan: Katuwang sa Pag-angat sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
In his keynote message, Mr. Mark Anthony E. Viernes, Head of the Community-Based and Sectoral Section of DSWD-10, paid tribute to the resilience and determination of women with disabilities.
“At DSWD Field Office X, we proudly stand with you in honoring the courage, resilience, and boundless potential of women with disabilities. Your strength and determination continue to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and carve pathways toward a more inclusive and empowered nation,” Viernes stated.
Ms. Trixie Mae Orong, PWD Focal Person, presented the Department’s inclusive programs and services for PWDs aligned with its social protection mandate. These include residential care services, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, the Sustainable Livelihood Program, and assistance such as financial aid and assistive devices under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation.
Furthermore, as part of its regular mandate, DSWD-10 continues to work closely with local government units (LGUs) across Northern Mindanao to ensure that services for PWDs are accessible and effective. This includes providing technical assistance, monitoring available services, assessing whether LGUs allocate dedicated budgets for disability-related activities, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
Through its active involvement in regional events such as this summit, DSWD-10 reaffirms its role as a key government partner in advancing the rights, dignity, and leadership of women with disabilities. ###
