Understanding the situation of poor families who are making ends meet and surviving the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected their economic status, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 10 goes to communities in Misamis Oriental to distribute the families’ subsidy under the Department’s Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT).
Each family beneficiary of UCT receives P3,600 which they can use to purchase food, medicines, and other essentials.
UCT is the national government’s comprehensive tax reform program as embodied in Republic Act No. 10963, or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, which seeks to provide cash grants to poor households and individuals who may not benefit from the lower-income rates but may be adversely affected by rising prices.
Based on RA 10963, the qualified beneficiaries of UCT are those household beneficiaries under Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, indigent senior citizens under Social Pension Program, and those included in the database of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) or Listahanan.
From August 3-September 5, 2020, there are 6,272 families who have received their UCT cash grants in Misamis Oriental covering the municipalities and cities of Cagayan de Oro, Tagoloan, Medina, Talisayan and Villanueva.
