The Local Government Unit of Salay, Misamis Oriental, Northern Mindanao, have recently received a Presidential Award from President Rodrigo Duterte during the National Awarding Ceremony of the 2017 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) last December 5, 2018.
Coming from the same region, the Local Government Unit of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte was also handed over with a plaque of recognition as finalist of the PACFMC. The said LGU has also received the Regional Seal plus P50,000.00.
In support for the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which was adopted by the United National General Assembly highlighting the rights of children on survival, development, protection, and participation in governance, the PACFMC was conceptualized with the goal of encouraging local government units to be “child-friendly.
The PACFMC was initiated by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) pursuant to Executive Order No. 184 entitled “Establishing the Presidential Award for the Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities” issued on December 13, 1999. The Presidential Award was conferred to deserving local government units in recognition of their vital role in the sustained promotion of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation as well as ensuring child-friendly governance.
Secretary Rolando Joselito Delizo Bautista of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assisted the President in the presentation of the Presidential Award to LGU Salay, as the Chairperson for the Council for the Welfare of Children, including an amount of P500,000.00.
The DSWD Field Office 10 also sends its congratulations to the two local government units of Salay, Misamis Oriental, and Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, for performing child-friendly governance in their communities which have been vital in the improvement of the quality of lives among children.
The Local Government Unit of Salay, Misamis Oriental received the award under the 4th-6th Class Municipality Category. With the said LGU are four other LGUs namely Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya under 1-3rd Class Municipality category; Tagaytay City under Component City category, Dagupan City under Independent Component City category, and Mandaluyong, National Capital Region under Highly Urbanized City category. ###cpt
