Cagayan de Oro — Social Work student s of Lourdes College in this City took part in advocating change to the communities today, February 12, 2016, by advocating the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s programs and services during their institution’s 88th Foundation Day.

In partnership with the DSWD, the students shared to their peers and neighboring communities how the government’s social protection programs helped the vulnerable and disadvantaged families in the region.

Mrs. Nel Labrador, Coordinator of the Social Work Program of Lourdes College, said that DSWD has been an inspiration to their students to pursue the social work profession after seeing how the national government has continuously provided interventions for the poor, vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

During their celebration, the social work students installed a DSWD corner in their institution where the agency’s programs and services were introduced to the participants of the Foundation Day, while trivia questions on DSWD social protection programs were done for the students to appreciate and participate on.

DSWD and the academic sector have been working closely to help individuals and families improve their well-being in the region.
