March is recognized as Fire Prevention Month, highlighting the importance of fire safety and awareness within communities. The involvement of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of DSWD reflects the government’s commitment not only to preventing fire-related incidents but also to supporting recovery efforts for those who suffer losses due to such tragedies.
The program provides post-disaster livelihood assistance specifically in cities or municipalities impacted by natural or man-made disasters, as well as in areas declared under a state of calamity. The program prioritizes low-income families in the informal sector, particularly those identified through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), in addition to other vulnerable and marginalized families, subject to evaluation.
To qualify for the program to receive the Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG), participants must be included on a list of disaster-affected families verified by the local government, show that their livelihoods or income sources have been adversely affected by the disaster, and not be recipients of other post-disaster recovery or rehabilitation programs from different national government agencies or NGOs, also subject to assessment.
In 2024, 1,722 participants benefited from the Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) provided by the program. As the primary agency focused on improving the economic conditions of our participants, our mission extends beyond merely providing financial assistance. We strive to create sustainable pathways for individuals and families to achieve long-term economic stability. Our outreach efforts are designed to inform and engage with vulnerable populations who may be unaware of the opportunities available to them.
