Fifty participants from the Municipality of Lagonglong engaged in practical training highlighting the Solo Parents Welfare Act and income-generating ventures on April 22, 2024, at The SPOT, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.

The participants, composed of barangay officials, Barangay VAW (Violence Against Women) focal persons, and solo parents, were informed of the salient features of the Solo Parents Welfare Act, including the process of availing a Solo Parents ID and booklet, as well as the privileges of a solo parent. Ms. Honey Grace Mendoza and Ms. Mae Singganon from DSWD-10’s Community-based section conducted the orientation.

In addition to the partnership with LGU Lagonglong, DSWD-10 also collaborated with the Department of Agriculture (DA-10) and TESDA-10. Mr. Ronald Allan Camaddo, Agriculturist I of DA-10, shared tips on urban gardening, container gardening, vertical gardening, and hydroponics as viable supplemental food options for the participants.

Meanwhile, Ms. Ronelyn Macalam, Instructor I of TESDA-10, demonstrated how to make Taro chips and Binangkal.

In his welcome message, Mr. Zosimo Butil, DSWD-10 Protective Services Division Chief, highlighted the importance of awareness regarding the Solo Parents Welfare Act and the phases of its implementation, especially with the transition to the new law.
