Photos: Subanen Babaylan, Archbishop bless ground breaking ceremonies for community projects in Sapang Dalaga



Community volunteers of Sapang Dalaga in Misamis Occidental joined in on the ground breaking ceremonies for the proposed sub-projects in their municipality. Misamis Occidental is home to the Subanen Tribe, a Babaylan and Archbishop Alex Suaner led the joint ceremonies during the ground breaking ceremonies in the area. The proposed sub-projects are the Concreting of .300km Farm-to-Market Road in Barangay Capundag with a total project cost of Php 1,894,444.35; Installation of 15 Units Solar Street Lights amounting to Php 853,516.00 in Barangay Dioyo; and the Construction of a 1 Unit Day Care Center with a total project cost of Php 886,586.00. The project is funded through the Department of Social Welfare and Development poverty alleviation program Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services: National Community Driven Development Program (KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP).

Listahanan bares Data on Persons and children with Disabilities

Mindanao – One of the variables added in the Household Assessment Form (HAF) which was used during the conduct of the second round assessment of Listahanan, the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s information management system in the identification of poor households in the country, was the variable asking for any member of the household with a certain type of disability.

Results showed that out of the 485,539 identified poor households in the region,  25,949 individuals or 1.04% have certain types of disability which includes hearing and visual impairments, mental disabilities, speech impairments, physical disabilities, and some even having  one or more  disabilities.  This also includes children with special needs such as those with cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, among others.

Regional Director Nestor Ramos said that with this data on hand, it would be easier for Civil Society Organizations ,Non-Government organizations, People’s Organizations and Partner Agencies who have social protection programs and services focused for Persons and children  With Disabilities to identify and target who needs their services the most, provided that they enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department .

Listahanan’s comprehensive database will serve as basis for selecting beneficiaries for social protection programs and services in the country. Results from the second round assessment conducted in 2015 identified 485,539 poor households among the 870,198 that were assessed.

The first round assessment was conducted in 2009 where over three hundred thousand households were identified as poor.

Based on the 2009 assessment results, partner agencies like Philhealth, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, National Nutrition Council have utilized the data for their major programs and services.

Other Civil Society Organizations including Safer River Life Saver Foundation have also significantly made use of the Listahanan data in identifying their beneficiaries.

Local government units alike which includes the City Government of El Salvador utilized the data for their various locally-initiated  social protection programs.

Volunteers from Barangay Catibac, Catarman, Camiguin Province completed the construction of a reinforced concrete box culvert with concrete approach slab last year. The project was through the Department of Social Welfare and Development poverty alleviation program Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services: National Community Driven Development Program (Kalahi CIDSS-NCDDP). The community volunteers, barangay officials and residents assures the maintenance of the sub-project by conducting regular clean-up activities to avoid clogging and maintain the free flow of water especially during the rainy season. The total project cost is Php 863,156.00 with KALAHI CIDSS NCDDP grant at Php 841,450.03 and local government unit counterpart of Php 21,705.97.

Catarman constructs multipurpose hall through community-driven development


Volunteers of Barangay Compol in the Municipality of Catarman, Camiguin Province constructed a 1-storey 1 unit multipurpose hall through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services: National Community Driven Development Program (KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP). During the sub-project, women participation was strongly encouraged; those who answered the call were women residents – especially Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries. As safety measure, during the construction engineers working on the project strictly imposed the use of personal protective equipment during work hours, or when inside the construction site. The total project cost is Php 811,286.00 with the KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP grant at Php 777,859.77 and local government unit counterpart of Php 33,426.23.

Photo: Jasaan kicks off community-driven project


Officials of Barangay Jampason, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, led by Barangay Captain Ermelinda N. Agbong (center) along with their Barangay Sub-Project Management Committee chairman Virgilio C. The community residents proposed a sub-project to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services-National Community Driven Development Program (KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP) which is the Concreting of .310 km farm-to-market road along Purok 6. Agbong, in her speech, said that the capsule symbolizes that the construction of the farm to market road will make the delivery of their farm products to the market faster. Furthermore, the farm-to-market road gives the children an easier access going to school especially during the rainy season. Jasaan is among the new areas of the KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP implementation.

Young people meet to advocate youth sector concerns


The regional PYAP (Pag –asa Youth Association of the Philippines) officers recently had their third quarter meeting in Northern Mindanao to tackle on issues pertaining to the welfare of the youth sector, and on how to lobby to their respective local government officials to better support the young people in the region.

Mr.  Mohaiman Macaumbang from the National Youth Commission also shared the various programs and services being implemented by the Commission for the youth sector.  He stressed the important role that the officers play in their respective localities as far as encouraging and motivating the youth is concerned.

The Pag-asa Youth Association of the Phillipines, Inc. or PYAP is a duly constituted barangay based organization of the out-of school-youth between 15-30 years old who are clientele of the DSWD.

The PYAP is organized nationwide and is federated from the Municipal, City/Provincial, Regional and national level.

The PYAP Federation of different levels serves as a strategy that provides forum to discuss youth issues and concerns related to their projects and come up with solutions/recommendations addressed to both the youth and other system involved in program planning and implementation.

The youth ,being one of the most active and influential  sectors in the communities also have their share as far as promoting the  involvement and participation of the youth is  to the localities where they are part of.

It was participated by Youth Federation Presidents and Officers from the five provinces of the region namely, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, and Lanao del Norte.
